Chapter 6 (Tyreese)

“Tyreese, watch your left flank!” Staff Sergeant Smith growled as she looked towards her left on Tyreese’s status. Tyreese took the staff sergeant’s advice and corrected his stance and took out the zombie that was beside him. In one clean swipe Tyreese took out the zombie that tried to flank him. The zombie’s head made a satisfying “plop” as its head rolled away from its body.

“Good job Tyreese, keep it up!” Allison commented as she managed to slice through another zombie.

“Are we almost done here? I think everyone has retreated!” Daniel claimed as he fired another arrow. The arrow shot went directly through the eye of a zombie.

Allison reviewed the empty medical bay and nodded. “Yeah, I think we covered the retreat well. Let’s start heading back inside.” The staff sergeant commanded.

Allison, Daniel, and Tyreese started their retreat towards the door. A zombie with grey hair, and a dress that barely fit, moaned as it entered their path for retreat. Tyreese smashed the head of the zombie in front to him. Once he was done, he stopped his retreat to find the location of Katie. She was still in their original spot firing arrows.

“Katie, let’s go! Everyone is gone!” Tyreese shouted.

“It’s my mom!” Katie replied. “I see her coming over there. My dad is there as well. Thank God they are alive. It looks like they are running after her. I am going to stay here and keep fighting until they get here in the hanger.”

“Shit,” Tyreese complained as he began to advance his position next to his girlfriend.

“Tyreese, what are you doing! We need to retreat now!” Allison growled as she noticed him advance further. “Get back here now, that’s an order!” Allison shouted with authority.

“No, she needs my help. You can court martial me later. But, I’m assuming you’re going to have to wait in line after the events from today.” Tyreese said as he continued to advance. Tyreese, stabbed through the forehead of another zombie, before a second one came close to his face. Tyreese grabbed its neck, and attempted to keep its blood stained jaws away from his face. As he fought, Tyreese tripped and fell to the ground.

While on the ground, Tyreese continued to fight the zombie’s attempt to bite his neck. From his left, he noticed another zombie coming his way too. Tyreese’s heart began to pump faster as he realized that he was in a terrible position. Tyreese felt fear of being eaten alive rise as he struggled to break free from the zombie that pinned him down.

As if time move slower, Tyreese saw the second zombie opened his mouth and got close to his exposed stomach. Before the zombie moved an inch closer, Tyreese witnessed an arrow pierce its skull. The second zombie was so close that Tyreese felt the tip of the arrowhead skim his skin. A second arrow appeared and punctured the zombie he held in his hand. Tyreese felt the life drain from the zombie’s body as he pushed the limp body away from him.
